Kochadaiyaan is a period movie partly inspired from the life of pandiyan king Kochadaiiyaan Ranadhiran (710-735 A.D). The movie revolves around the battle of Good versus evil and shows one man’s courage to stand for the injustice. The movie shows Kochadaiiyaan Ranadhiran’s brilliance in battle and his benevolence in ruling his subjects. It documents his vicious struggle against those who plan to usurp his crown.Kochadaiyaan ,directed by Soundarya R. Ashwin and written by K. S. Ravikumar. The film will feature Rajinikanth alongside an ensemble cast, including R. Sarathkumar, Deepika Padukone, Rukmini Vijayakumar, Aadhi, Shobana, Nassar and Jackie Shroff. The film, which is expected to be shot with motion capture in 3D, will have cinematography handled by Rajiv Menon whilst background score and soundtrack will be composed by A. R. Rahman.

Rajnikanth is the star of the movie and his performance once against defies his age. His stunts, characteristic dialogue delivery style and stylish acting, carries the movie forward with impeccable grace. The plot of the movie is well developed and the characters are well rounded and dynamic.

On numerous occasions director Soundarya has claimed that Kochadaiiyaan has been made using latest animation and 3D technologies. And, when you compare it with other movies that have been produced on the Indian shores, the claim indeed prove to be right. But in comparison with Hollywood movies, Kochadaiiyaan is lacking in ‘wow’ factor special effects.The brightness is already very bad, and if you watch it in 3D, it makes the experience even worse. The 3D lacks depth, very much evident when spears and glasses being thrown at us don’t really reach as far as they should.

The characters, though predictable, are well-defined. Jackie Shroff, Adhi, Shobhana and Sarathkumar, have done their parts well. Sarathkumar is the one character who never looked like the real counterpart. The rest were decent enough.

The other important aspect is the art direction. The sets and locations are beautifully created, and the composition of every frame makes the backdrop standout. Another plus point of the movie is the background score by A R Rehman. He serves the flavour of that contemporary milieu by giving fusions with current-generation instruments. The war scenes are lifted to a great extent only due to his work

In the nutshell, though Kochadaiiyaan isn’t the best animated special effects movie around the block, but it still has enough elements to entertain and woo the audience, and the best part is another brilliant performance from the living legend.
